This gravedigger is growling out blood red cult rock, dredged from America’s deepest South. Against a wall of thrumming bass, sleazing, super heavy guitar and pounding drums, former Chasing Yukon frontman Newell preaches in crossroad tones, somewhere between Nick Cave’s hell-bound sinner stylings and the haunted baritone of the late Johnny Cash. As a precursor to the forthcoming Blues Funeral album, The Gravediggers Song suggests 2012 will see Patrick Newell delivering a dark powerhouse of gothic delight. 8/10 -supajam.com |
